Abstract
The article focuses on Argentina's National Strategy for the Development of the Hydrogen Economy (ENH), launched in September 2023, which aims to promote low-emission hydrogen production—including green, blue, and pink hydrogen—to decarbonize the energy matrix, foster reindustrialization, and expand exports by 2050. The ENH targets producing 5 million metric tons of hydrogen annually, supported by significant increases in electrolysis capacity and renewable energy generation, while emphasizing innovation, job creation, and regional development. It situates Argentina’s strategy within the broader South American context, comparing it to neighboring countries’ hydrogen roadmaps that primarily focus on green hydrogen, and highlights challenges such as production costs, infrastructure, certification harmonization, and the need for supportive legal and macroeconomic frameworks. The strategy underscores the importance of regional cooperation, technological development, and investment promotion to position Argentina as a competitive global hydrogen supplier.
