Abstract
The article discusses the state of global climate action as of 2025, highlighting the outcomes of the U.N. COP30 climate conference held in Belém, Brazil. Despite alarming climate events and a push from some countries to phase out fossil fuels, the final agreement did not mention fossil fuels due to opposition from oil and gas producers. The article notes that the U.S. has adopted a unique approach to climate policy under the Trump administration, which has included cuts to clean energy support and a focus on economic self-interest, leading to a stagnation in emissions. Meanwhile, China has emerged as a leader in clean technology, significantly increasing its solar-cell exports. The need for climate adaptation measures is emphasized, as experts suggest that both adaptation and emission reductions are crucial in addressing the escalating climate crisis.
