Abstract

This article introduces a special issue focused on the American Psychological Association's (APA) 2021 Apology and Resolution on Dismantling Racism, which acknowledge the organization's historical and ongoing harms to people of color. Using a framework of Antecedents, Behaviors, Consequences, and Recommendations (ABCR), the issue reviews the roots and impacts of racism in psychology and offers specific, actionable recommendations across the APA's major domains: Science, Education, Practice, and Public Interest. Emphasizing a strong historical and theoretical foundation, the special issue aims to provide a cohesive roadmap for operationalizing antiracist change within psychology and its institutions. The title, "A Dangerous Opportunity," reflects the dual nature of the current crisis as both a risk and a chance for transformative growth.
