Abstract

The Pentagon's civilian commando chief, Christopher Maier, stated that the network responsible for the suicide bomber attack at Afghanistan's Abbey Gate, which killed 13 US service personnel and around 170 Afghan civilians, has been significantly degraded but not eliminated. Maier mentioned that allied and partner disruptions have reduced the network's capability to carry out such attacks. The attack, which occurred three years ago, has been criticized as chaotic and has been used by Republicans to criticize President Joe Biden's foreign policy. Maier also noted that Central Asian countries have been more aware of the threat from Afghanistan and have provided support in foiling recent plots. [Extracted from the article]
