Abstract

This article focuses on the translation and psychometric evaluation of the Persian version of the European Health Literacy Survey Questionnaire (HLS-EU-Q47), referred to as HLS-PV, within Iranian society. Conducted with 560 participants from comprehensive healthcare centers in Sanandaj, Iran, the study found that the HLS-PV demonstrated good validity and high internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha = 0.96), with three factors—healthcare, disease prevention, and health promotion—explaining 48.9% of the variance in health literacy. The results indicated a significant association between health literacy levels and education, while no significant differences were found by gender or place of residence. The study concludes that HLS-PV is a reliable tool for assessing health literacy in Iran and can support healthcare providers in tailoring health information to improve public health outcomes.
