Abstract

The article focuses on protests by the Druze community in the Israel-annexed Golan Heights against a state-backed wind turbine project by the renewable energy company Energix. The Druze, many of whom hold Syrian citizenship and rely on agriculture and tourism, oppose the project due to concerns over its impact on their rural lifestyle, health, and land ownership, amid longstanding grievances related to Israeli annexation and perceived discrimination. Clashes between protesters and police resulted in injuries and detentions, while political leaders remain divided on the project's continuation. Additionally, the Virginia Coalition for Human Rights opposes Energix due to its involvement in projects on occupied lands and environmental concerns linked to its solar panel technology.
