Abstract

This article focuses on the prevalence of musculoskeletal symptoms among chefs working in restaurants in Islamabad and Rawalpindi, Pakistan. A cross-sectional observational study of 307 chefs found that the most commonly reported areas of musculoskeletal discomfort were the lower back and knees, followed by the shoulders and upper back, with over half of the participants also reporting fatigue as measured by the Fatigue Assessment Scale (FAS). The study identified significant associations between age, musculoskeletal discomfort, pain intensity, and fatigue, highlighting the impact of prolonged physical stress and poor ergonomics in this occupational group. These findings underscore the need for ergonomic interventions to reduce musculoskeletal risks and improve work conditions for chefs in the catering industry.
