Abstract

The article focuses on two prominent Sicilian film festivals, SalinaDocFest and the Ortigia Film Festival (OFF), founded by Giovanna Taviani and Lisa Romano, respectively, which highlight Sicily's role as both a cinematic setting and a source of storytelling inspiration. SalinaDocFest, established in 2007, centers on narrative documentaries reflecting Mediterranean cultures, while OFF, founded in 2009, showcases a diverse range of Italian and international films in the historic city of Siracusa. Both festivals have become integral to their local communities and contribute to Sicily's cultural identity by linking its landscapes, legends, and contemporary experiences through cinema. Giovanna Taviani's documentaries further explore Sicilian storytelling traditions, emphasizing the island's ongoing dialogue between past and present narratives.
