Abstract
The article analyzes the 1964 short story "The Swimmer" by John Cheever. Topics discussed include similarities between the short story and Emma Cline's novel "The Guest," how Cheever took the character Neddy Merrill's disorientation and sense of dislocation to the conclusion that time passes quickly, and the few adaptations of Cheever's works.
