Abstract
In recent years, the Academy Awards have seen a shift in the types of films that win big. While box office successes like The Sound of Music and The Godfather used to dominate the awards, smaller budget films have been taking home the top prizes. This change has coincided with a decline in viewership for the Oscars broadcast. To address this issue, the Golden Globe awards introduced a new category in 2023 that honors films that received critical acclaim and made significant money. This year's Oscars may break the pattern, as two high-grossing films, Oppenheimer and Barbie, are competing for Best Picture. The success of these films has given hope to the industry that art and commerce can coexist. [Extracted from the article]
