Abstract

The article focuses on American film director John Huston who faced accusations of being a communist during the Cold War era. Topics include his movement to Ireland to escape the scrutiny of McCarthyism where he found a supportive community along with fellow dissident journalist Claud Cockburn, who continued to criticize elites in his writings; Huston's film "Moulin Rouge" how he decided to make a film based on Cockburn's novel "Beat the Devil"; and his honorary doctorate from Trinity College.
