Abstract

The author examines the influence of the Actors Studio in film through Method acting and its benefits and shortcomings as seen in the work of actors James Dean and Marlon Brando. It discusses the emergence of a new hero that is a rebel and an outsider, which became the image presented by the two actors in American cinema. It analyzes how far the image has been conditioned and determined by the Method in which Brando and Dean have worked. It also describes the Acting Studio's history.
