The article informs Joseph B. Walker, ASC, known for his collaborations with director Frank Capra, including classics like "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington," relied on self-taught expertise gleaned from an apprenticeship under cinematographer Billy Bitzer. Despite never serving as a camera assistant or operator, Walker became a prolific inventor and was honored by the Academy for his technological contributions with the Gordon E. Sawyer Award in 1982.
