Abstract
The article focuses on the fifth anniversary of the Black Film Bulletin’s return to print, highlighting key conversations and themes in Black cinema. It features a Paris dialogue between June Givanni, founding editor and archivist, and Martinican director Euzhan Palcy, exploring her pioneering career and Pan-African cinematic legacies. The piece also examines the tradition of Black resistance humour in film, tracing its evolution from Melvin Van Peebles’ groundbreaking satire to contemporary works like *They Cloned Tyrone* (2023), which use comedy to critique systemic racism. Additionally, British-Nigerian filmmaker Akinola Davies Jr discusses his Bafta-winning debut *My Father’s Shadow* and reflects on Black masculinity, community storytelling, and creative responsibility.
