Abstract
The article reviews *South Asian Gothic: Haunted Cultures, Histories and Media* (2021), an edited volume that examines Gothic literary and cultural productions across South Asia through historical, political, religious, and media perspectives. The book is organized into four parts addressing themes such as state terror, colonial and postcolonial anxieties, indigenous spirits and folklore, and Gothic elements in South Asian media including film, television, comics, and radio. It aims to decolonize Gothic studies by situating South Asian Gothic within its diverse cultural contexts and challenges Western-centric frameworks, while also highlighting gaps such as the limited focus on South Indian cinema. This anthology offers a comprehensive and interdisciplinary approach to understanding Gothic tropes in South Asia, making it a valuable resource for scholars of Gothic literature, cinema, and media studies.
