Abstract
This article focuses on cinematographer Lawrence Sher, ASC’s collaboration with director Maggie Gyllenhaal on *The Bride!*, a subversive reinvention of *The Bride of Frankenstein*. Sher discusses their creative process, including the use of anamorphic and Imax formats, the choice of Sony Venice 2 camera for low-light scenes, and the development of distinctive lighting techniques to evoke vintage and expressionistic moods. The film features innovative sequences such as black-and-white scenes of Mary Shelley, a high-frame-rate stair fall, and a visually striking Bride reanimation inspired by Bergman’s *Persona*. Gyllenhaal reflects on her learning experience working with Sher, highlighting their shared emotional and technical exploration to realize the film’s unique tone and storytelling.
