The article focuses on the 1955 incarceration of twenty innocent gay men in an Iowa mental hospital and the efforts of Jackie and Roy Yamahiro to protect and support them. It highlights how the couple provided care, empathy, and advocacy for the men amid widespread state-sanctioned persecution and hysteria.
