Abstract
This article focuses on a study investigating the impact of an indoor soundscape workshop on interior architects' awareness of sound as a design element. Conducted with 18 participants in Türkiye, the workshop combined theoretical lectures, practical sound environment design for a restaurant and an office, and group discussions, with pre- and post-workshop questionnaires assessing changes in noise sensitivity, sound expectations, and preferences. Results indicate that while acoustics and sound are insufficiently addressed in Turkish interior architecture curricula, the workshop significantly enhanced participants' sensitivity to sound, as well as their expectations and preferences for sound sources characteristic of specific interior spaces. The study suggests that experiential learning methods like soundscape workshops can effectively raise awareness of sound in interior architectural design, though it notes limitations such as sample size, workshop duration, and scope of sound parameters addressed.
