Abstract

This article examines the Ca' Foscari Short Film Festival, an international event founded in 2011 and sponsored by Ca' Foscari University in Venice, dedicated to showcasing short films created by student filmmakers worldwide. Unique for being almost entirely student-run, the festival offers professional-level experience to hundreds of student volunteers involved in all organizational aspects, from programming to communications. The festival features diverse categories including fiction, animation, documentary, experimental shorts, and a special competition for high school filmmakers, emphasizing creative freedom and equal recognition across genres. It holds cultural significance for Venice by integrating cinema with the city's artistic heritage and provides educational opportunities through masterclasses, networking, and practical training, fostering the development of emerging filmmakers and volunteers alike.
