Abstract
The article discusses the expiration of the copyright on the cartoon character Mickey Mouse. Originally introduced in the 1928 film Steamboat Willie, Mickey Mouse has become an iconic figure associated with the Walt Disney Company. The copyright on Steamboat Willie officially expired in January 2024, meaning that the character is now in the public domain in the United States. While the original version of Mickey Mouse can now be used without fear of copyright infringement, the later versions of the character, including the iconic image of Mickey in red shorts, oversize shoes, and white gloves, are still protected by copyright. Disney has stated that they will continue to protect their rights in the more modern versions of Mickey Mouse and other copyrighted works. [Extracted from the article]
