Abstract
The article focuses on the 2023 film *The Boys in the Boat*, directed and co-produced by George Clooney, which dramatizes the true story of nine working-class University of Washington (UW) rowers who overcame adversity to win gold at the 1936 Berlin Olympics. Based on Daniel James Brown's best-selling book, the film portrays themes of perseverance, teamwork, and sacrifice against the backdrop of the Great Depression and Nazi Germany. While generally faithful to historical events, the film compresses the timeline and includes fictionalized elements, such as a fabricated act of sportsmanship by a rival coach and a dramatized photo finish at the Olympic race. The article situates the film within Clooney's broader directorial work and notes its conventional narrative style and production values that evoke the era authentically.
