Abstract

The article "GREAT ESCAPE PLANS" from the History of War journal discusses Flight Lieutenant Bertram 'Jimmy' James' involvement in the famous 'Tom', 'Dick', and 'Harry' POW escape tunnels during World War II. James, along with other prisoners, attempted a mass escape from Stalag Luft III but was caught. Despite this, James continued to make escape attempts, eventually being liberated by the US Army in May 1945. The Table of Measurements created by James details the dimensions and logistics of each tunnel, showcasing the scale of the projects. The document is now displayed at the Eden Camp museum, which was once a Second World War POW camp. [Extracted from the article]
