Abstract
This article examines Steven Spielberg’s 1975 film *Jaws* as a transformative work that reshaped cinema both commercially and artistically by masterfully blending fear and pleasure to evoke awe. It highlights the film’s focus on three distinct masculine archetypes—Chief Brody, Hooper, and Quint—and how the elusive shark functions less as a literal creature and more as a symbol of existential terror and absence. The article discusses the production challenges, including malfunctioning mechanical sharks, which led to creative storytelling techniques that enhanced the film’s suspense and cultural impact. It also considers *Jaws*’ open-ended symbolism, inviting diverse interpretations while emphasizing Spielberg’s intuitive filmmaking approach that anticipates audience reactions. Ultimately, *Jaws* is portrayed as a seminal event in film history that established the summer blockbuster model and continues to influence cinematic narratives and audience expectations.
