Abstract
This article focuses on Romanian filmmaker Radu Jude's 2024 film *Dracula*, which notably incorporates artificial intelligence (AI) technology out of budgetary necessity rather than as a cultural statement. Jude used AI-generated imagery to create unsettling visual effects within the film's nearly three-hour runtime, reflecting both the limitations and creative possibilities of the technology in a small national film industry. The film's narrative intertwines AI-generated sequences with social and political critiques, while Jude expresses cautious acceptance of AI's role in filmmaking, emphasizing the need for regulation due to ethical and artistic concerns. Jude's approach contrasts with wealthier industry figures who promote AI primarily as a cost-cutting tool, highlighting differing perspectives on AI's impact in cinema.
