Abstract

Three new Malagasy Sapotaceae species are described in the genus Mimusops L.: M. makaka Randrianaivo & L. Gaut. is a relatively common and widespread large forest tree found in the northern part of the eastern lowland evergreen rainforests; it is here evaluated as Vulnerable following IUCN criteria. Mimusops sahakensis L. Gaut. & Randrianaivo is a small seasonal littoral forest tree endemic to northeastern Madagascar in Analabe forest in the Loky-Manambato Protected Area and in the unprotected Ambondrobe forest; it is here evaluated as Endangered. Finally, M. swensonii L. Gaut. & Boluda is a medium lowland evergreen rainforest tree endemic to the southeast, so far recorded only from the Bemangidy forest in the Tsitongambarika Protected Area, and is evaluated as Critically Endangered. All three species descriptions are supplemented by line drawings and field photographs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
