Abstract
The article explores the historical importance of the Monroe neighborhood in Topeka, Kansas, particularly during the 1860s to 1920s, with a focus on the Monroe Elementary School's role in the Brown v. Board of Education case and the Civil Rights Movement. Through archaeological investigations, remnants of structures, outbuildings, and artifacts were discovered, providing insights into the lives of residents and the impact of segregation on education. The research aims to offer a comprehensive understanding of the neighborhood's history beyond the landmark court case, highlighting the contributions of Black migrants to Topeka's development and the significance of Monroe Elementary School.
