Abstract
This article focuses on the Latvian public's response to Russia's unprovoked full-scale invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022, highlighting a photo essay documenting solidarity actions in Riga during the first two weeks after the invasion. Situated between the Embassies of Ukraine and Russia in Riga's historic Art Nouveau district, the display features flowers, candles, messages of support for Ukraine, and protests against Russian President Vladimir Putin, reflecting Latvia's historical experience with Soviet occupation. The article also details Latvia's humanitarian efforts, including fundraising and accepting displaced Ukrainians, alongside public demonstrations condemning the war. It underscores the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Ukraine, marked by mass displacement, civilian casualties, and shortages of essential supplies.
