Abstract
This article examines colonization as an interspecies issue by exploring the intersection of animal colonialism and gender violence in North America, focusing on recent works by Canadian author Eden Robinson (The Trickster Trilogy) and Mexican author Guadalupe Nettel (Natural Histories). It employs the decolonial animal ethic proposed by Billy-Ray Belcourt (Driftpile Cree), which frames non-human animals as "colonial subjects" and partners in decolonization alongside Indigenous peoples. The analysis highlights how colonial violence impacts both Indigenous women and non-human animals, critiques Western anthropocentric and speciesist ideologies, and discusses Indigenous-led resistance movements, including Indigenous veganism, as forms of decolonial practice. Through literary and cultural analysis, the article demonstrates how Indigenous narratives challenge colonial binaries and promote interspecies kinship as a mode of anti-colonial resistance and healing.
