Abstract
The article focuses on how Israel is exploiting Lebanon's sectarian divisions amid its military assault on Beirut and southern Lebanon, displacing over 500,000 people since September 2024. It highlights Israel's strategy of targeting civilian areas under the pretext of attacking Hezbollah, while also using psychological warfare, including fake news and threats, to deepen social rifts within Lebanon's confessional political system. The piece describes tensions between Lebanese communities, particularly between displaced Shi'a from the south and predominantly Christian areas in Beirut, illustrating how these divisions undermine national unity during the conflict. Despite efforts by Lebanese volunteers to support displaced families, the article emphasizes that Israel's actions aim to weaken Lebanese society and resistance through both military and psychological means.
