Abstract
The article focuses on SOCAR's Complex Drilling Works Trust completing a new well at the West Absheron oil field, setting a record for the longest horizontal open hole in SOCAR's history at 522 meters. This achievement surpasses the previous record of 515 meters set in 2025 at the same field. The drilling was conducted using geonavigation (geosteering) techniques based on real-time geological data. The West Absheron field, located near Baku in the Caspian Sea region, was discovered in 1958 and has been producing oil since 1996 from the Kirmaky and Lower Kirmaky layers.
