Abstract

This article focuses on the development and psychometric evaluation of the revised Multicultural Ideology Scale (rMCI) in its German-language version, designed to measure endorsement of multiculturalism across cultural contexts. The rMCI assesses multiple attitudinal dimensions relevant to multiculturalism, including Cultural Maintenance, Equity/Inclusion, Social Interaction, and Consequences of Diversity, with data from samples in Germany and Luxembourg supporting a four-factor model as the best fit. While the scale demonstrated adequate reliability and validity within these samples, measurement invariance was confirmed across gender but only partially across the two countries, reflecting differences in sociopolitical contexts and integration policies. The study highlights the rMCI's potential as a multidimensional tool for cross-cultural research on multicultural attitudes, recommending further validation and refinement, especially regarding subscales that showed weaker psychometric properties.
