Abstract

This article investigates the determinants of initial trust and its impact on mobile payment (m-payment) usage intention among first-time users in Bangladesh. Using structural equation modeling on data from 284 first-time m-payment users in Dhaka, the study finds that perceived ubiquity (accessibility anytime, anywhere), perceived security, and perceived ease of use significantly enhance initial trust, which in turn positively influences perceived usefulness and the intention to use m-payment services. Additionally, personal innovativeness positively affects usage intention, while perceived cost negatively impacts it. The findings highlight the critical role of building initial trust through secure, accessible, and user-friendly services to encourage m-payment adoption in Bangladesh's developing economy.
