Abstract
The Samoan Islands have never really fallen off the world's radar since it became the site of an "almost war" between the Great Powers of the United States, Britain, and Germany in 1889. This is especially so for American Samoa: this is one of the few books that treats the old Western Samoa (now the nation state of Samoa) and American Samoa as one connected ethnic and economic space with a continually interlocking history.
