Abstract
The article focuses on the community effort that helped secure heritage designation for the former home of Nova Scotia's first Black doctor, Clement Ligoure. Topics include Ligoure's contributions to Halifax's medical and publishing communities, his selfless acts after the Halifax explosion; and involvement of Natasha Camacho's grade one students in the efforts to protect and celebrate Ligoure's legacy in a Governor General's History Award for Excellence in Teaching.
