Abstract
The article focuses on the changes to Wisconsin’s 2025–2027 biennial state budget allocations for K–12 and higher education. While K–12 public schools received increased funding for special education and mental health services, state equalization aid—the primary general aid for K–12—remained unchanged. Higher education funding increased after years of disinvestment, with notable investments in the University of Wisconsin system and the Wisconsin Technical College System, including support for faculty compensation and capital improvements. The budget also continued funding for property tax relief and expanded support for private school vouchers and charter schools. These budget decisions occurred amid challenges such as declining enrollment and rising student mental health needs across Wisconsin’s educational institutions.
