Abstract

The article focuses on the Northern Ireland Practice and Education Council for Nursing and Midwifery’s (NIPEC) launch of its Career and Development Model for Nursing and Midwifery in 2025, designed to address workforce pressures and retention challenges in health and social care. The model aligns with the strategic vision outlined in "Shaping Our Future: A Vision for Nursing and Midwifery in Northern Ireland 2023–2028," providing a competency-based framework that clarifies career pathways and supports professional progression through its two core components: Nursing and Midwifery Careers and the Learning and Development Framework. It emphasizes inclusive, flexible development across all nursing roles, linking education to service needs and leadership competencies, with the goal of enhancing workforce sustainability, capability, and leadership. The model’s success depends on effective implementation, including sustained investment and a supportive culture that values ongoing professional growth. [Extracted from the article]
