Abstract

The fall 2024 issue of the Utah Historical Quarterly explores seemingly mundane topics such as trash, beets, and turkeys to reveal the complex interactions and historical significance behind everyday things. Articles delve into the intertwined relationship between the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the beet sugar industry, the unique response of Grand and San Juan Counties to World War II, and the failed attempt to capitalize on garbage in Davis County. Additionally, the issue highlights the discovery of a refuse pile in downtown Salt Lake City and the development of a scientific project to support turkey growers in Sanpete County.
