Abstract
The article focuses on the artistic reinvention of a historical apartment in a small house on Beirut's seafront, emphasizing its significance as a symbol of a more interconnected eastern Mediterranean. Architect Ala Tannir undertook an "experimental preservation" project on the house, which was built by her great-grandparents in the mid-1920s, amidst Beirut's transformation into a major port city. The restoration, influenced by the 2020 Beirut port explosion, incorporates site-specific artistic interventions by local and regional artists, aiming to reestablish ties to the sea and foster connections across the Mediterranean. Tannir envisions the house as a hub for multidisciplinary research and collaboration, reflecting on its rich history while looking towards a hopeful future. [Extracted from the article]
