Abstract

According to a report presented at the UN Human Rights Council, Eritrea is facing severe human rights violations, including torture, arbitrary detention, enforced disappearances, and restrictions on freedom of expression, association, and peaceful assembly. The government has been accused of silencing dissenting voices through repression and the detention of religious leaders, activists, journalists, and those evading military service. The UN special rapporteur on Eritrea stated that the government has taken no action to address these violations. However, the chargé d'affaires of the permanent Mission of Eritrea in Geneva denied the allegations, claiming that Eritrea is committed to promoting and protecting human rights. The lack of rule of law and accountability mechanisms in Eritrea has contributed to the impunity for human rights violations. Additionally, Eritrean forces have been accused of committing violations in the context of the Tigray conflict in Ethiopia. [Extracted from the article]
