Abstract
This report examines the role of emotions and affective spatialities in social geography, highlighting how recent research foregrounds intersubjective relations, collective experiences, and socio-spatial power hierarchies rather than earlier affect theory's focus on precognitive bodily intensities. It explores how emotions are mobilized in various contexts—including nation-states, workplaces, and digitally mediated spaces—to both reinforce and challenge social structures, emphasizing the concepts of emotional labour and emotion work across temporal and spatial scales. The report also discusses the implications of engaging with emotions in academic institutions through a framework of "caring-with," which integrates ethics of care and justice while acknowledging the complexities and discomforts inherent in emotional experiences. Overall, it underscores the constitutive role of emotions in shaping sociality, spatiality, and agency within diverse socio-political environments.
