Abstract
The article focuses on the expansion of telehealth during the COVID-19 pandemic as a strategy to support climate justice by improving healthcare access for communities disproportionately affected by climate change, particularly small island states in Oceania. It argues that high-emission countries with advanced medical systems, such as Australia, have a responsibility to assist these communities through culturally appropriate, community-led telehealth linkages that sustain local healthcare systems. The article highlights barriers to equitable telehealth access, including technological, financial, and cultural challenges, and emphasizes the importance of two-way partnerships and local leadership in health system adaptations. It also notes that telehealth can reduce carbon emissions associated with travel and help address workforce challenges exacerbated by climate change.
