Abstract
This article focuses on the Lions Empowering School Nurses for Children with Diabetes initiative in Delaware, which addresses gaps in diabetes care training for school nurses. Through a partnership among the Delaware Department of Education, Delaware Diabetes Coalition, Lions Club District 22D, and funding from the Lions Clubs International Foundation, a free, evidence-based, asynchronous online course titled "Diabetes Care at School: Bridging the Gap" was offered statewide. Within one year, 242 nurses—over 60% of Delaware's school nurse workforce—completed the training, resulting in significant improvements in knowledge, confidence, and competence in managing diabetes, including the use of advanced technologies like continuous glucose monitors and insulin pumps. The program demonstrates the effectiveness of strategic collaboration and accessible continuing education in enhancing school-based chronic disease management and serves as a replicable model for other regions.
