Abstract
The article focuses on research conducted at McMaster University regarding the first-and-last mile (FM/LM) problem in public transit systems, particularly in Hamilton, Canada. The study analyzes bike share data to determine how these services can complement public transit by addressing FM/LM challenges. It employs a novel method to quantify bike share trips and identifies distinct differences in trip attributes between FM and LM trips, highlighting the frequent use of bike share for commuting between transit stops and workplaces. The research concludes with policy recommendations aimed at improving cycling infrastructure and promoting integrated transit and bike share usage. [Extracted from the article]
