Abstract
The article focuses on the challenges Guinea-Bissau faces due to climate change and political instability. Despite having the highest natural capital per capita in West Africa, the country struggles with poverty, economic dependence on cashew nuts, low electricity access, and vulnerability to climate impacts on agriculture, fisheries, and infrastructure. The Country Climate and Development Report (CCDR) emphasizes the need for strengthened institutional and financial systems, climate-smart agriculture, forest protection, increased energy access, and human capacity building to foster resilience and sustainable development. Additionally, President Umaro Sissoco Embalo attributes political instability to corruption and drug trafficking, highlighting efforts to strengthen the judicial system and train prosecutors to combat organized crime.
