Abstract
The article focuses on concerns raised by civil society activists and opposition groups in the Central African Republic (CAR) regarding the 2025 presidential election, which they warn may be less credible and transparent than the 2020 vote. Activists criticize the National Electoral Authority (ANE) for its lack of preparedness and skepticism surrounds its ability to conduct both presidential and municipal elections in the same year, especially after postponing local elections from October 2024 to April 2025. Opposition leaders, including Martin Ziguele of the Movement for the Liberation of the Central African People (MLPC), accuse President Faustin Archange Touadera's government of restricting political space, entrenching authoritarianism, and undermining opposition parties through tactics such as bribery and repression. These developments have raised fears among opposition figures of a potential return to one-party rule in the CAR.
