Abstract
The article focuses on the decolonization of hearing health care development in the Pacific Islands, as reflected through the experiences of an audiologist working in Samoa. It discusses the unique challenges faced in providing audiology services in a region with high rates of ear disease and a predominantly young population, emphasizing the need for culturally relevant and contextually appropriate practices. The author advocates for the development of a locally tailored audiology curriculum and highlights the importance of integrating Pacific Island methodologies in health research and development to better serve the community's needs. The article ultimately calls for a shift in focus from traditional audiology training to a broader approach that includes community health workers and local knowledge systems.
