Abstract

This article focuses on factors influencing the age of autism diagnosis among children in Paraguay. Analyzing data from 176 caregivers of autistic individuals aged 18 or younger, the study found that the child's current age, the age at which caregivers first noticed developmental concerns, and the child's verbal skills significantly predicted the age at diagnosis. Specifically, children with more advanced verbal abilities and those whose caregivers recognized concerns later tended to receive diagnoses at older ages. The findings highlight the importance of increasing awareness among caregivers and professionals about early autism signs beyond verbal communication to promote earlier identification and intervention in Paraguay.
