Abstract
This article examines the place of men and masculinity within recent social and feminist movements through the artistic practices of Chilean artist Sebastián Preece, focusing on his works *Precipitar* (2019) and *Ante(s)jardín* (2018–22). Preece's five-year engagement with an abandoned industrial warehouse in Santiago's Independencia neighborhood involved sweeping and nurturing a spontaneous garden under natural light and water, creating a quiet, non-hegemonic expression of masculinity that contrasts with the public feminist marches occurring simultaneously across the city. Drawing on Argentine anthropologist Rita Segato's concept of the "mandate of masculinity," the article suggests that Preece's subtle, caring, and solitary interventions offer alternative ways for men to explore emotional vulnerability and resist dominant masculine norms. These works highlight the potential of art to create spaces for reflection, affective bonds, and new temporalities that challenge traditional gender roles and contribute to critical gender and performance studies.
