Abstract
This article examines the convergence of the tourism industry with other sectors in Macau, focusing on how this convergence path influences residents' environmental perceptions and attitudes toward tourism development. Analyzing survey data from 392 Macau residents, the study finds that while the tourism industry convergence path positively affects convergence effects, it negatively impacts residents' environmental perceptions. These environmental perceptions, in turn, negatively influence residents' attitudes toward tourism, whereas convergence effects have a positive influence; the convergence path itself does not directly affect resident attitudes. The research highlights the mediating roles of convergence effects and environmental perceptions in shaping resident attitudes and underscores the variation in perceptions and attitudes across demographic groups. These findings contribute to tourism development theory by integrating stakeholder perspectives, particularly residents', and offer practical implications for sustainable, community-sensitive tourism planning in Macau.
