Abstract
The article focuses on the release of more than a dozen political prisoners in Belarus, including Siarhei Tsikhanouski, the husband of prominent opposition leader Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, following a meeting between Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko and US special presidential envoy General Keith Kellogg. The exiled human rights center Viasna reported the release, which Tsikhanouskaya publicly acknowledged, expressing gratitude to US and EU officials for their efforts. The meeting marked a significant diplomatic engagement, as Kellogg was the highest-ranking US official to visit Belarus in years, discussing international issues and Belarusian-American relations. Despite the release, Lukashenko remains under sanctions for undermining democracy, with nearly 1,200 political prisoners still recognized in the country. [Extracted from the article]
